Report: Middlemore Hospital's ED unsafe environment

From First Up, 5:53 am on 18 October 2022

The emergency department at New Zealand's largest hospital Middlemore has been labelled an "unsafe environment for both patients and staff". This was among the damning conclusions of an independent report into the death of a patient in June. The woman left the emergency department without being seen after being told it would take hours. The five-page report by an unidentified fellow from the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine, describes Middlemore as dysfunctional, overcrowded and unsafe. Joining Nathan Rarere is the executive director of the Association of Salaried Medical Specialists, Sarah Dalton.
