Northland is experiencing heavy traffic, with a large operation to unload a cargo ship at Northport and transport 1200 containers to Auckland getting underway this morning.
The ship was diverted from the Ports of Auckland because of loading delays, and since 6am, about one extra cargo truck every five minutes has been rumblling down State Highway 1.
It's expected to take seven days, and thousands of trips, to unload the ship.
Māni Dunlop recieved an update from Senior Sergeant Mike Flatt, from the Commercial Vehicle Safety Team in Te Tai Tokerau.
