The Cancer Society is donating $2 million to fund a new research project that will focus on cancer prevention and support.
Otago University, Massey University and Victoria University will join forces to tackle the country's leading cause of death.
The group will look in particular at the inequities in cancer between Maori and non-Maori.
Doctor Rachael McLean from Otago University is part of the research team, she spoke to Susie Ferguson.
