Freshwater rights: ‘It’s complex and it’s challenging’ - Parker

The Māori Council is hailing a landmark Waitangi Tribunal report upholding Māori rights to at least a share of lakes and rivers.

The tribunal wants the government to recognise Māori proprietary rights, allocate a percentage of freshwater to hapu and iwi, and set up a national freshwater co-governance body. Environment minister David Parker talks to Corin Dann.
