Emotions run high as Rua Kenana Pardon Bill passed

On the same day the government committed to teaching New Zealand history in schools, it has apologised for what has been described as the final shots of the New Zealand Wars. The first reading of the Rua Kenana Pardon Bill was passed in parliament yesterday, which was an emotional time for both politicians and the descendants of Rua Kenana. The bill recognises the false arrest, detention, conviction, and sentence of Rua Kenana caused lasting damage to his character, mana, and reputation and to his descendants. Meriana Johnsen reports.
