Conviction checks for all abuse advisory group support people

From Morning Report, 8:10 am on 26 September 2019

The royal commission into abuse in state care will now require police conviction checks for survivor advisory group members and all support people who accompany them to meetings. Commissioner Judge Coral Shaw says survivor advisory group meetings have been postponed until an appropriate safety checking system is in place. The convicted paedophile at the centre of the scandal engulfing the Inquiry has admitted attending group meetings. But he says he was only there to support his partner, who is a member of the group, and didn't socialise with others. Judge Coral Shaw is in our Wellington studio.
