Te Ohu Kaimoana concerned for livelihoods of fishers

From Morning Report, 6:49 am on 25 June 2020

Te Ohu Kaimoana says it’s concerned for the wellbeing of fishers affected by the Government’s Hector’s and Māui Dolphin decision.

Ministers yesterday announced restrictions on methods of fishing in areas where dolphins live and admitted this could set the seafood industry back by $30 million to $70 million.

It said there would be economic help for affected fishers, but gave no details.

Te Ohu Kaimoana chief executive Dion Tuuta told Eric Frykberg that information should have been provided along with the plan.
