A century on debut from Black Caps batsman Devon Conway has propelled the team into a strong position after the first day of the opening cricket Test against England at Lord's.

Conway managed to see off the four England pace bowlers on his way to an unbeaten 136, with New Zealand on 246 for 3 at stumps.

Just a couple of months after becoming eligible for New Zealand, the South African-born Conway played One dayers and T20 internationals for the Black Caps last summer.

But the 29-year-old has now found his place in Test cricket.

With captain Kane Williamson winning the toss and deciding to bat, Conway told sports reporter Barry Guy and other media, that he was happy to get straight into it at the home of cricket.
