British government says Rwanda deportation plans unchanged

The British Home Secretary has insisted the government will not change its policy after a flight preparing to take asylum seekers to Rwanda was stopped by legal challenges - minutes before it was due to leave the UK last night.

The minister, Priti Patel, said many of those removed from the flight would be put on the next one. The plane was prevented from leaving by a European Court of Human Rights ruling.

Priti Patel insisted to MPs the policy was "fully compliant" with the law.
