Chinese president Xi Jinping says he wants his country's relationship with New Zealand to be taken to a "higher level" in the wake of a meeting with Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.
The two leaders met on the sidelines of the APEC summit in Bangkok, their first face-to-face meeting since 2019.
The meeting happened amid a backdrop of war in eastern Europe between Russia and Ukraine, and North Korea's decision to fire further missiles into Japanese territory during the summit.
