A "shallow recession" is the prediction of Finance Minister Grant Robertson, as he looks ahead to 2023.
The government gave its half yearly financial update yesterday, with Robertson signalling next year's budget will be about supporting households facing cost of living pressures.
Yet government has already announced an end of the fuel subsidy and half price public transport.
Robertson also reiterated that Ministers have been asked to look for cost savings, to allow for new initiatives not currently within their budgets.
