National Party on Dunedin Hospital shrink

From Morning Report, 7:44 am on 21 December 2022

Beds and operating theatres have been cut from the design of a new hospital in Dunedin, because of increasing building costs.

Te Whatu Ora says an extra $200 million is needed to deal with cost pressures, largely caused by inflation.

But after some to-and-fro, the Government has put up an extra $110 million, leaving a $90 million budget shortfall for the $1.5 billon hospital

Health Minister Andrew Little's office is referring all queries on this to the duty Minister. They, in turn, are referring any questions on the matter to Te Whatu Ora, who declined our interview request.

Dunedin-based National MP Michael Woodhouse spoke to Corin Dann.
