The Department of Internal Affairs is proposing making traditional and online media subject to the same rules, with current regulations deemed inadequate for many social media platforms.
At the moment, the exact same content is subject to different rules depending on where it is published.
New Zealanders are being urged to share situations when they've been harmed via the Internet, before public consultation on the proposal closes at the end of July.
