New smart mouthguards cause confusion during Super Rugby opening round

From Morning Report, 8:46 am on 26 February 2024

There was confusion on the rugby pitch on Friday night as a new rule for all players to wear smart mouthguards caused interruptions to the game.

During the Super Rugby match between the Chiefs and the Crusaders, Quinten Strange and Anton Lienert-Brown were both ordered off the ground for head injury assessments, due to alerts from the mouthguards.

Both Strange and Lienert-Brown appeared confused and frustrated by the decision.

They were eventually allowed back onto the field. There's been a suggestion the issue could have been caused by a dodgy Bluetooth connection.
