Principal 'deeply disappointed' over plans to cut free school lunches programme

From Morning Report, 7:25 am on 5 March 2024

A Porirua Principal is deeply disappointed the government is looking to axe funding for free lunches in schools by up to 50 percent.

The $323 million programme is under review with ACT leader and Associate Education Minister David Seymour says it's wasteful spending, that it has not effectively improved achievement or attendance and it needs to be refocused.

Porirua College feeds more than 1000 students a day in the city under the programme and its principal Ragne Maxwell doesn't want to see that change.

Maxwell spoke to Corin Dann.
