Forest and Bird concerned over Govt Fast Track bill

From Morning Report, 6:44 am on 8 March 2024

The Government's Fast Track Approval bill will put New Zealand's threatened species on a fast track to extinction and leave a mess for future governments to clean up.

That's the assessment of conservation group Forest and Bird, following the tabling of legislation in parliament aimed at making the approvals process faster for a range of significant infrastructure projects.

The chief executive of Forest and Bird, Nicola Toki, says three Government ministers will be given unbridled power to approve any development they want, no matter how damaging to the environment.

Toki spoke to Corin Dann.
