TVNZ proposes cutting 9 percent of staff

From Morning Report, 7:10 am on 8 March 2024

TVNZ staff will today learn the fate of their jobs, with up to 70 roles across news and current affairs on the chopping block.

The state broadcaster is proposing to cut 9 percent of its workforce, after its interim financial results revealed its total revenue had fallen by 13.5 percent.

The Broadcasting Minister says the media sector is in a lot of pain and has signalled help could be on the way.

RNZ political reporter Katie Scotcher reports.
