Researchers aim to detect deadly bird flu early

Scientists in Aotearoa are planning environmental sampling to act as an early alert system for a highly infectious strain of bird flu.

The strain has killed millions of birds and marine mammals across the world in recent years, with Oceania the only region that hasn't reported  cases.

University of Otago Professor Jemma Geoghegan is one of the lead researchers. She spoke to Corin Dann.
