SIS and GCSB to appear before Intelligence and Security Committee

From Morning Report, 7:20 am on 26 March 2024

The United Kingdom and the United States have called out China over what they say have been state sponsored cyber-attacks.

The United Kingdom has accused China of hacking its electoral commission, and targeting some of its MPs.

In New Zealand, the then-minister for the Government Communications Security Bureau, Andrew Little, revealed in July 2021 that malicious cyber activity had been linked to the Chinese Ministry of State Security.

New Zealand's SIS, and GCSB, will both appear before the Intelligence and Security Committee on Tuesday.

The Minister for the SIS and GCSB, Judith Collins, has declined to comment on the allegations. China has rejected the accusations.

RNZ's political editor Jo Moir spoke to Corin Dann.
