With the death of NZ Country Music legend John Grenell announced on Thursday, we speak to AudioCultures Country Music expert Glenn Moffat. A musician in his own right has been writing about John Grenell and following his career closely for many years.

He joined Charlotte Ryan on the show from Brisbane.

2.10 Mercury Prize nominee Joy Crookes

Joy Crooks is a proud South Londoner of Bangladeshi and Irish heritage. Her music defies genres, her timeless vocals are reminiscent of a bygone era and communicate her stories and reflections with a presence and lyricism that could only exist today.
Her first studio album, Skin, nominated for the Mercury Prize too -  is a statement of selfhood, the DNA of what makes her Joy Crookes as well as an examination of the relationships that have shaped her. She performed for the first time in NZ this week and Charlotte Ryan had the opportunity to talk with her.

3.30  Reliable Records

Reliable Recordings was the first record label to release locally-made house music in New Zealand, back in 1999. It was the brainchild of Joost Langeveld, who initially partnered with Chris Chetland of Kog Transmissions, then took the label independent.

For a long time the music released by Reliable wasn’t online, but this month saw its entire archive made available, as the label relaunched as (Un)Reliable Recordings.

Tony Stamp talked to Joost Langeveld to find out what the future may hold…
