1.20  Austin indie icons Spoon head to Aotearoa 

Austin indie rock icons Spoon, are coming to Aotearoa in December supporting The War On Drugs in Auckland and Wellington.

Last here in 2017 - Spoon will be touring their acclaimed new album Lucifer On the Sofa and of course many of their hits.

Charlotte Ryan spoke to frontman Britt Daniel from his home in texas, about the band's longevity in the indie rock scene and what keeps them motivated to write new music.

1.35 The 50th Anniversary of Hip Hop

We celebrate 50 years of Hip hop, during the month the August  2023. 

Rap music is usually traced back to such late 70s offerings as the Fatback Band's "King Tim III" and Sugarhill's "Rapper's Delight", which were the first rap/hip-hop records. However, The Last Poets' eponymous debut album (1970) which was a rap record in all but name, has as good a claim as any to being the first.

2.15  P. Diggs on Amokura, the latest single from Shapeshifter

To coincide with Cook Islands Language Week, Epetoma o te reo Māori Kūki ‘Āirani, local band Shapeshifter have released a new single called 'Amokura' which features vocals in te reo Māori Kūki 'Āirani and traditional cook islands drumming.

Kara Rickard spoke to P Diggs, about the single, his connection with his homeland, and his hopes for raising awareness for te reo Māori Kūki Āirani, one of the most endangered languages in the world.

3.30 Trevor Reekie speaks to sitar player Roopa Panesar 

British-Asian Roopa Panesar is one of a growing group of women who are professional sitarists.

It’s not an easy road to start on and to succeed at, it takes a lot of ability and patience as well as a certain amount of gender discrimination. Roopa Panesar however is blessed with great talent, persistence, and strength of character.

Translating as ‘The Soul’, Roopa Panesar’s new spring 2023 album, ATMA was recorded at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios.

Trevor Reekie talks to ROOPA PANESAR about her career as a professional Sitar player.

He knows So much NZ Music History because he has been part of it. 

Working for Recorded Music NZ for many years which meant involvement in the Aotearoa Music Awards, helping create the first ever historical exhibition of New Zealand music at Auckland Museum, he was part of the NZ Music Hall of Fame Trust, He helped bring Girls Rock Camp to NZ and in recent years He helped Auckland City to become a UNESCO City of Music.  

Mark Roach is departing from his role as Special Projects and Marketing Manager for Recorded Music NZ, one of Recorded Music NZ’s longest-serving staff members.
