New research from the University of Auckland has found that one in seven women in relationships experience economic abuse, wherein a partner uses tactics designed to control a woman's financial resources.
Economic abuse was found to compound the effects of other forms of intimate partner violence, including food insecurity, and the likelihood of mental illness such as depression or anxiety.
Lead author for the study Professor Janet Fanslow from the school of population health at the University of Auckland joins Emile Donovan.
