Is it time to update our understanding of the universe? Some cosmologists think so

Over the past 100 years our understanding of how the universe works has changed changed dramatically as technology and scientific theories have improved in leaps and bounds.

But is the current model too simplistic and outdated?

Some cosmologists believe so and last week many of them gathered at the London Royal Society to challenge the fundamental assumptions that underpin the conventional understand of how everything works.

Emile Donovan speaks to one of the conference's organisers, Oxford University Professor Subir Sarkar, about why he's questioning the long-held model.
