Huge data gaps undermining environmental protection: PCE

The Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment, Simon Upton, has identified significant shortfalls in the way environmental data is collected and collated, which he says could be leading to poor policy decisions and environmental damage.

His new report into the Environmental Reporting Act, which introduced mandatory reporting in 2015, paints a picture of fragmented data from a range of organisations. Mr Upton says this means policy makers are "flying blind".
