Meta unveils teen safety measures

From Nine To Noon, 9:25 am on 22 November 2022

Social media giant Meta claims it has new tools to prevent online predators targeting teens on Facebook and Instagram.

It says it's improving privacy settings to help prevent teens from connecting with adults whom the platforms deem as `suspicious', who won't appear in teen's recommendations for friend requests.

Meta says it's also encouraging teenagers to report anything making them feel uncomfortable.

The platform says it will now make teenagers' Facebook accounts private by default - it made this change to Instagram last year.

Meanwhile Meta says it's also working to stop the spread of teens' intimate images online, but has not released any more detail.  Kathryn speaks with Chief Executive of Netsafe Brent Carey.
