Dr Alexy Karenowska: the smell of history

From Saturday Morning, 10:05 am on 27 June 2020

Dr Alexy Karenowska wants people to be able to sniff history.

She's a magnetician at the University of Oxford, a physicist and engineer who is also the Director of Technology of the Institute of Digital Archaeology.

For her smell is an essential part of the historical record, so documenting the smells of today for future generations, and recreating aromas from the past, makes perfect sense.

For an upcoming exhibition at the Bodleian Library in Oxford called Sensational Books she's trying to capture the smell of ancient books.
