Duolingo to add Te Reo Maori to its repetoire

From Summer Report, 8:28 am on 15 January 2020

The world's most popular langauge-learning app, Duolingo, will add Te Reo Maori to its range of courses this year - but potential students are being told it's not the only tool that should be used to gain an understanding of the language.

Duolingo has more than 300 million users around the world, largely learning languages like English, Spanish or French.

But in recent years the company has been working to help revive native languages, and Te Reo Maori will be included on the app before the end of the year.

Broadcaster and Te Reo Maori teacher, Stacey Morrison, told our reporter Ben Strang, that it's a great way to get people interested in learning te reo, but the app won't provide a holistic view of the language.
