The Iranian president has hit back against Britain, France and Germany after they triggered an unprecedented bid to curb Iran's nuclear programme, by warning European soldiers "may be in danger" if they do not leave the Middle East.

Tensions are high following a series of events in the region, beginning with the death of Qasem Soleimani almost two weeks ago.

In a televised Cabinet meeting on Wednesday Hassan Rouhani issued a warning for European soldiers, saying they "may be in danger" and said all foreign forces should leave the region.

The BBC's diplomatic correspondent Jonathan Marcus spoke to Logan Church.
