NZ church leaders attend Vatican meetings

7:32 pm on 9 October 2016

New Zealand religious leaders are taking part in a series of international meetings between the Anglican and Catholic churches.

The Catholic cardinal John Dew and the Anglican bishop Ross Bay are both at the Vatican for the meetings this weekend, which are being led by Pope Francis and the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby.

Collaboration between the two faiths is being discussed.

Cardinal Dew said New Zealand Anglicans and Catholics already enjoyed a mutually supportive relationship, akin to that of an extended family.

The meetings mark the 50th anniversary of the first meeting between a pope and an archbishop of Canterbury.
