Police in Auckland are investigating a burglary at a petrol station in the Auckland suburb of Papakura overnight.

It was the eighth petrol station to be targeted in the city in the last few days.

A group of four male offenders stopped at the station on Grove Road, in a stolen vehicle, at about 1.10am.

Police said they used tools to smash a window, before entering the closed store.

The fog cannon was automatically activated, causing the offenders to flee, and the vehicle was found nearby.

Police said it was unclear if anything was stolen and no arrests have been made.

A group of five used hammers to smash windows and enter a petrol station in Māngere Bridge on Monday night.

The sole employee was left shaken but uninjured.

A Caltex service station was robbed around 2am on Sunday - the fourth Caltex station to be targeted in a week.
